communitygroups
From A2D groups can be held anywhere there is a room large enough for up to 15 people to gather.  These groups can include: people currently struggling with an addiction, people coming out of rehab or detox, people who have been clean and sober for a while but want to stay connected, family members of addicts and people interested in hosting a group at their location.

It is amazing to see the “light bulb go on” as an emotionally wounded spouse sitting in group hears an addict they never met use the same excuses and blame shifting as they have heard many, many times in their own house.  Equally amazing is facilitating a group and watching addicts instantly shift from self-centeredness to compassionate caring about others as someone else in the group shares feelings of hopelessness or helplessness.  Also the addict who just shared their struggle finds hope as they understand, through the encouragement of others who have “been there,” that they are not the only one who feels this way.

Contact us to find a group near you or if you are interested in helping start a group in your area.
groupsinprisons
From A2D groups have been meeting in prisons in the USA since 2006 and in South Africa since 2008.  Typical groups are once a week for two hours and are part of the spiritual care/chaplain’s program or the developmental care/social work education curriculum.  The curriculum has achieved Quality Assurance at several correctional facilities in South Africa and is in the process of attaining nationwide certification.

Inmates should actively participate in the From A2D curriculum for a minimum of 6 months during incarceration, and ideally for a year or more.  We strongly recommend that offenders who have participated in the curriculum be stipulated to continue in a community group for a minimum of 6 months as part of their probation/parole.  In these cases we have found that the recitivism rate is less than 15% for those actively participating in a weekly group.  Continuum of care is a key component as the men and women transition to life on the outside.

If you are interested in starting From A2D groups in a correctional facility or talking with corrections personnel where the curriculum is being used please contact us.
sexualaddictions
From A2D has worked extensively in the area of sexual addictions.  This includes people struggling with bondage to pornography, convicted sexual offenders, victims caught in or coming out of human trafficking, prostitutes, pimps, and customers of all levels of the sex industry.  In each instance we have found behaviors, mindsets, compulsions, emotions and attitudes that are identical with people in addiction.  We offer groups in prisons, in rehabs and safe houses, and in the community.  They can either be specialized groups for people with the same issues or blended groups with various addicts.

The From A2D curriculum includes moral regeneration and spiritual restoration as key components in the process of recovery.

Contact us to find a group near you or if you are interested in helping start a group in your area.
substanceaddictions
From A2D has worked with people in substance abuse/addictions all around the world. The common thread is the use of a depressant, stimulant or hallucinogen to escape or numb some emotional pain or disconnect. Most addicts lie to themselves for years saying things like “I’m not an addict; I could stop at any time.” So these groups welcome anyone at any stage of addiction, use or abuse. Substance abuse has resulted in broken relationships and families, children growing up with one or no parent, increased crime, building more prisons, unwanted pregnancies, increased sexually transmitted diseases and decaying communities and cities around the world. We believe that the answer is NOT to build more prisons and “lock up all the junkies!” The answer IS to provide a place where addicts and their families can find healing, wholeness, and reconciliation. We are eager to work with existing rehabs, halfway houses, social workers and treatment centers to train their staff to work with the From A2D curriculum.

Dr David L Hain, CAADC

Dr. David L. Hain 2010

David Hain is at the heart of From Addict to Disciple. David has not always been a Bible teacher. He grew up in a business family in Reading, Pennsylvania. He was a "nominal fence straddling Christian" who very quickly became successful, a world traveler and global business manager. But his life, full of outward materialism and worldly success, was empty and lonely. One night in a hotel room in Germany, God spoke to David in a new way. David responded, "God, I will stop PLAYING Christian and start BEING Christian."

David sacrificed his career, sold his material possessions and has not looked back since. He became a missionary to homeless and drug addicted persons. He has lived in and ministered to crack addicts in St. Petersburg, Florida. He has traveled extensively, including ministry trips to China (where he taught English), Swaziland, Botswana and South Africa (where he ministered to persons with AIDS), and in the country of Azerbaijan, a former Russian state with many addicts and refugees.

Throughout his counseling career David, his books, prison ministries and missionary work have influenced over 30,000 addicts and families.
